Hog Log; 8/21:
It was an absolutely beautiful day for riding
today! Sunny and cool! The Weather Channel had predicted
thunderstorms leaving Great
Falls this morning, but thankfully, they never materialized. I
left Great Falls this morning, travelling south on I-15. Nice
road! 75mph and gorgeous scenery. Northern Montana is pretty in
it's own way but Central Montana is very different ... green and
mountainous. The Big Belt Mountains to the north of Helena are
particularly stunning! I was driving through wispy clouds this
morning on those winding roads. Around every bend, a new vista
more beautiful than the last! This is why God made Harleys!
I hopped over to I-90 East to catch Hwy 89
South, the road that winds through Yellowstone Park. It was my
first time there and it was as beautiful as I'd always pictured
it. Old Faithful wasn't spouting but saw a whole field of geysers
going off like a steam calliope. Also saw numerous hot sulpher
springs ... bubbling up through the crust and filling the air
with steam. I could feel the heat from 100 feet away!
Saw all kinds of wildlife ... elk, bison, moose ... no bears, though.
I tried to get a room in the park but they were all full up so I had to leave by the west entrance to get a room before dark. And that's where I am now ... in West Yellowstone, MT, on the Wyoming border.
Tomorrow, the Grand Tetons!
More later....
